Manual Wheelchair Technician
MEDmobility is seeking a practical, mechanically inclined person to join our team as a Manual Wheelchair Technician. This is a hands-on position involving the assembly, customization, maintenance and repair of manual and pediatric wheelchairs.
Previous wheelchair experience is an asset but is not required. We will provide product-specific training to a candidate with strong mechanical ability, good judgment and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and customize manual wheelchairs according to specifications provided by occupational and physiotherapists.
- Diagnose problems and complete repairs, adjustments and preventative maintenance.
- Modify seating components and wheelchair settings to improve clients’ positioning, comfort and mobility.
- Meet with clients to understand their equipment concerns and determine appropriate solutions.
- Inspect equipment, identify required replacement parts and assess potential warranty issues.
- Prepare accurate service records, product coding and supporting documentation.
- Work cooperatively with healthcare professionals, suppliers and other MEDmobility employees.
- Travel to clients’ homes, healthcare facilities and community locations as required.
- Assist with other mobility equipment, including power wheelchairs, as training and experience develop.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and experience assembling, maintaining or repairing equipment.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Patient, respectful and compassionate when working with people who have physical disabilities.
- Good communication, customer-service and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and adapt to changing daily priorities.
- Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check and be bondable.
